Crystals!! One of my favorite topics to discuss. We are going to dive into all things crystals – what are crystals, how are crystals used in healing, how can crystals work with each Chakra and so much more. Are you READY??
What are Crystals?
So, what is a crystal? A crystal is a mineral. More specifically,
A crystal is a form of matter in which the atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in a highly ordered three-dimensional lattice. Crystals are also called crystalline solids because most crystals are solid. However, liquid crystals also exist. The word “crystal” comes from the Greek word krustallos, which means both “rock crystal” and “ice.” The study of crystals is named crystallography.
You might hear people talk about stones and crystals interchangeably. Stones, however, are simply where you have several minerals together and tend to be smoother and denser.
Each crystal is unique and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
How Are Crystals Used in Healing?
Let’s get something straight right from the start when it comes to crystals and healing. We do not heal. We do not use crystals to do any sort of healing. We WORK with crystals that WORK with the body to do the healing. The client’s body is the one that does the healing. The practitioner simply works with crystals and universal healing energy to facilitate the healing.
Everything in this universe vibrates at a different frequency. All matter, everything. Organs, blood, emotions, color, light, everything. Crystals also vibrate at a specific frequency. This specific frequency is the Dominant Oscillatory Rate (DOR). Basically, humans are simply a collection of DORs! Crystals, on the other hand, only have one DOR.
Nothing is stationary; and everything vibrates – giving off light or sound. The Kybalion
As you can imagine, the DOR for many things can change quite easily. And that doesn’t mean it is a good thing either. For crystals, however, their DOR is very stable. This is due to their stable structure. What determines the DOR of a crystal are a lot of things: size, color, thickness, etc…
This DOR is what determines the many healing properties of crystals. This is where we are going to get into the fun stuff.
What is Entrainment?
We need to take a slight tangent and introduce the concept of entrainment and then we’ll pick up where we left off with the DOR of crystals and how this aids in healing.
Entrainment is defined by a temporal locking process in which one system’s motion or signal frequency entrains the frequency of another system. This process is a universal phenomenon that can be observed in physical (e.g., pendulum clocks) and biological systems (e.g., fire flies).
And I’m going to add “and energy systems” to that last sentence of this particular definition. When it comes to two similar frequencies, one can entrain the other. They entrain “to” the frequency of the stable, higher amplitude DOR – i.e. the crystal.
Putting it all Together
Crystals can entrain our bodies (or specific DORs rather). And since the crystal is a higher amplitude, more stable frequency, that is the frequency that whatever it is we are working with will entrain to.
Now, let’s shift gears and talk about Chakras and we will end with how to put crystals together with Chakras for the most beautiful healing!
What are Chakras?
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel”. The energy points in our body are Chakras and we have 7 of them. Well, actually there are 7 main Chakras and you are going to get introduced to a few more today!
So, what is a Chakra? In super simple terms, Chakras are specific energy points in our body. Think of them each like a whirlpool or spinning disk. Something that is fluid and moves. These are not energies that one can see with the naked eye. But many of us really can “see” them, but we are using our intuition and third eye to do so. And if you are one that can see color or auras then you might “see” them this way too. Or you might simply just know the color or sense it.
Chakras are frequency based conduits between physical and subtle energies.Hibiscus Moon
Many people think of the Chakra energy fields as though it goes out to the front. But it isn’t quite like that. Imagine a sphere at the center of the Chakra and a funnel going out the front and the back of the body. Now, the crown Chakra funnel goes up and the root Chakra funnel goes down. The 3rd eye is kind of tilted up towards the front and down towards the back.
Each chakra contains nerves, organs, emotions, energy and more.
Each of our Chakras has its own specific frequency. This frequency also expresses as a color and this has been measured. You can imagine, then, how a crystal of a similar frequency just might be able to entrain the energy of a particular Chakra, right? Now, it doesn’t even have to be the same exact frequency, but rather an octave of a particular frequency. On a side note, if you aren’t familiar with Color Healing, you can learn more in my Healing with Color article.
Dr. Valerie Hunt shows that Chakras oscillate with a DOR using telemetry equipment which is super cool. I’m sure you’ve heard of Chakras being blocked or unbalanced or something similar. How I envision it is that their DOR has changed, shifted, or dampened. This is where crystals come in.
According to Hibiscus Moon, it is estimated that 85-95% of the world’s population has at least one Chakra that is out of balance. That is a lot. That is why regular Chakra treatments are so important. If you have never had one done, please be sure to schedule an appointment with me for a Chakra tune up and Reiki treatment.
You might be wondering why balancing Chakras is so important. Energy moves through our Chakras in a Taurus type shape. It comes up through our root Chakra, up through all our Chakra, out our crown Chakra and then goes out and down each side of our body and back up our root Chakra.
That central column of light in the body is the light column.
White light is the combination of all the visible colors of light. My mentor, Hibiscus Moon, uniquely describes the light column in terms of a prism. Our energy field is the prism and the white light column in our bodies is made up of all the colors of the Chakras to produce it. Now imagine if those colors were off or blocked or not shining properly. What would happen to the light column? That would change too.
How Can Crystals Work with Chakras?
Crystals are more than ideal for tapping into and entraining our energy systems. And when this occurs, healing can occur. Remember, Chakras govern specific physical, energetic and emotional things in our bodies. So choosing the proper crystal for a particular area to entrain will raise the frequency back to a closer state of health.
How to Use Crystals
There are many ways to use crystals in health and healing. Let’s go over a few ways you can use them on your own and then I’ll talk about how I use them in my practice.
Seriously. Just hold it. Put it in your pocket. Wear it in a piece of jewelry. Put it in your purse. Keep it on the dashboard of your car and then stick it under your leg when driving.
Literally anything, just have it on you. I like to either rub it or apply a little pressure when I am holding it.
Grab your favorite crystal, put it in your left hand and meditate with it. Bond with it. I like to do this for a few days with a new crystal just to see how I connect with it and how IT connects with my energy.
Another thing to try is to put a rose quartz or black tourmaline in your left hand and listen to binaural beats. Here is one of my favorites:
And if you are not familar with binaural beats, then you are in for a treat! You need to listen with headphones, though, to get the full effect. Basically, one ear hears a certain a frequency and the other ear hears a different frequency. They try to reconcile which is right, simply cannot, and therefore your brain takes the difference between the two and THAT is the frequency that you are meant to sit with. When that healing frequency washes over your brain, body and energy body, you come down more into gamma and theta brain waves which is where the healing begins. This is a topic for another time, though, so stay tuned!
Create a crystal grid. If you don’t know much about crystal grids, check out this great book called Crystal Grids. They don’t need to be fancy either. Check out this amazingly simple grid that I did for a client!
How I Use Crystals in My Sessions
I use crystals in all my Chakra healing sessions and most of my regular reiki sessions. During the Chakra balancing, I will place crystals on each of the Chakras as well as a few additional areas that I identify as needed.
I also set up crystal grids for each of my clients based on their needs.
One of fun things that I incorporate with the crystals is tuning forks that are precisely tuned for the specific Chakra. I lay the crystal on the Chakra and then strike the tuning fork while touch the crystal. Quite beautiful actually.
How to Choose a Crystal for Chakra Healing
I choose a crystal in one of 3 ways, or a combination of them.
- Based on what the crystal is known for.
- Based on the color that I am looking for.
- Based on how it feels in my hand and if it “tells” me I need it.
I know that last one sounds weird, but one of the best ways to pick out a crystal is to simply hold it and ask it.
